The First Aid at Work (FAW) course require 18 hours of contact time (plus breaks) and, ideally, is taught over 3 consecutive days although this can be adapted to meet your needs. For example, three days over several weeks or, for an additional cost, split into a number of half day sessions. Please note that the course must be completed within 10 weeks.
Assessment is in the form of practical exercises and two straightforward multiple choice papers. Candidates must pass both elements to qualify.
Please note that candidates must be able to perform exercises at floor level where required. It is a requirement of all regulated courses that the candidate should be able to communicate effectively with Emergency Services and, although this is not assessed formally, your instructor must be satisfied that this is the case. As such, all the question papers are in English and a reader will be provided if candidates have literacy concerns or learning difficulties.
Once qualified, the certificate is valid for 3 years, at the end of which candidates will need to attend a two-day requalification course to requalify (this must be completed within 3 months of the expiry date and candidates are not qualified within this time). It is recommended by HSE that all first aiders should do an annual 3 hour refresher course to keep their skills up-to-date.
We are able to combine this course with a Paediatric First Aid course thus helping schools to meet both their HSE and Ofsted obligations whilst saving time (3 days training instead of 5 for both courses) and, therefore, costs. The additional cost is £25.00 plus VAT per person if joining one of our open courses. It is important that you let us know in advance if taking this option. For more information please click here
We book a maximum of 12 people per trainer. Larger groups can be accommodated with additional trainers.
To maintain as safe a training environment as practical all shared training equipment is thoroughly sanitised before each course including changing of manikin lungs. Other items such as training dressings are supplied new for every course.
When teaching at your premises we will follow your Covid Safety protocols, only requesting that masks and gloves are worn for any close contact exercises. On our open or public courses we do require masks to be worn unless we are made aware of a valid medical exemption in advance. When this is the case, proof of a negative Lateral Flow Test taken in the preceding 24 hours will be required.
