Course Information

As a professional driver there is a high chance that you’ll witness or be first on-scene at an incident and First Aid skills have a significant impact on outcomes. For PCV drivers, many local authorities make it a requirement of any contract work that a recognised First Aid certificate is held.

Even if you elect not to receive a formal First Aid certificate the training received on this course can be a real life saver and First Aid skills are not just for work but for the home as well

Duration

The CPC EFAW course requires 7 hours of contact time. This can be taught over one day; two half-days or evening sessions which must be on consecutive days. Split courses attract an extra charge and any breaks taken are in addition to the 7 hours. Please note that split courses must be completed within 3 weeks of the start date

Assessment

Assessment is in the form of practical exercises and a straightforward multiple-choice paper at the end of the day and candidates must pass both elements to receive a formal First Aid certificate. The CPC hours are credited for attending the course and do not require the candidate to pass any assessments.

Please note that candidates must be able to perform exercises at floor level where required to obtain a First Aid certificate. It is a requirement of all regulated courses that the candidate should be able to communicate effectively with Emergency Services and, although this is not assessed formally, your instructor must be satisfied that this is the case. As such, all the question papers are in English and a reader will be provided if candidates have literacy concerns or learning difficulties.

Certification

Once qualified, the certificate is valid for 3 years, at the end of which candidates will need to attend a one-day EFAW to requalify. It is recommended by HSE that all first aiders should do an annual 3 hour refresher course to keep their skills up-to-date.
