Good SAM – App

Following on from last week’s blog, I want to focus this week on the GoodSAM app which is a significant enhancement to GoodSAM itself.

The app is a free download available from your app store.

There are two versions, one if you are a First Aiders (or better) and prepared to act in an emergency (Responder) and the other is aimed at everyone with a smart phone or device (Alerter).

Once the app is installed, then spend a couple of minutes making sure it’s set-up, including registering with them, and you’re go to go if an emergency occurs: during set-up you can simulate an emergency just to see how it all works.

The GoodSAM app also has the location of over 13,000 Automated External Defibrillator’s (AEDs) in its database so will always show you the nearest one to where you are; early defibrillation significantly enhances the changes of a good outcome if someone’s having a Cardiac Arrest.

In a life-threatening emergency, all you need to do is open the app, confirm it is an emergency and it will call the Emergency Services and alert the 3 nearest responders; you talk to the Emergency Services in the normal way.

Time is of the essence in an emergency and it takes time for an ambulance to arrive so if a responder can attend scene quicker than an ambulance this may well be a significant help and can improve the odds in the casualty’s favour.
