Course Information

One of our most requested courses is the Paediatric First Aid course, and no wonder: whether dealing with children professionally or in the home, a knowledge of how to deal with emergency situations can bring peace of mind when taking care of our most precious commodities!

It is a legal requirement for all newly qualified nursery staff to hold a Paediatric First Aid certificate and for a nursery to achieve the gold standard ‘Millie’s Mark’ all staff will have to hold one of these qualifications.

The Level 3 Paediatric First Aid (PFA) course is regulated by Ofqual and meets all of Ofsted’s requirements.  It is aimed at those who care for children from birth to puberty.

It should be noted that the Early Years Framework states that all those who will be left in sole charge of a child or children requires the full Paediatric First Aid course.

Duration

Blended Learning Paediatric First Aid courses still require 12 hours of contact time with the first 6 being done on-line at your own pace with plenty of opportunity to go back to review elements and refresh your knowledge.

The second 6 hours (plus breaks) is taught as a group in-class where the practical elements are done and the assessments take place.

The in-class day can be split into two ½ days (for an extra charge) and the whole course must be completed within 7 weeks of the start of the on-line elements.

We fully recognise that freeing up staff during the week may be difficult, so we are happy to teach this at a weekend.

Assessment

Assessment takes two forms; practical exercises and a straightforward multi-choice paper at the end. Candidates must past both elements to qualify.

Please note that candidates must be able to perform exercises at floor level where required. It is a requirement of all regulated courses that the candidate should be able to communicate effectively with Emergency Services and, although this is not assessed formally, your instructor must be satisfied that this is the case. As such, all the question papers are in English and a reader will be provided if candidates have literacy concerns or learning difficulties.

Certification

Once qualified, the certificate is valid for 3 years at the end of which candidates will need to attend a fresh two-day course to requalify.

It is recommended by Ofsted that all Paediatric First Aiders should do an annual 3 hour refresher course to keep their skills up-to-date.

We book a maximum of 12 people per trainer. Larger groups can be accommodated with additional trainers.
