It is important to recognise and understand the four commonly seen flags on the UK’s beaches. For more information, click here.
Red Flag: Never enter the water when you see this flag, under any circumstances.
Red and Yellow Flag: These show the lifeguarded areas between these flags.
Black and White Chequered Flag: For surfboards, stand-up paddleboards, kayaks and other non-powered craft. Launch and recovery area for kitesurfers and windsurfers. Never swim or bodyboard here.
Orange Windsock: Indicates offshore or strong wind conditions. Never use inflatables when the windsock is flying.
